There seems to be an ongoing issue with Google Home speakers
Google Home speakers are experiencing widespread delays and outages, with numerous owners reporting sluggish or entirely unresponsive devices throughout the morning.
Multiple Reddit threads on the r/GoogleHome community describe speakers that continue listening for commands but take far longer than usual to generate a spoken response. Several of those reports point to reply times stretching to around 30 seconds, with some requests failing to complete at all and timing out before the speaker offers any answer.
That slowdown appears unrelated to hardware age, with affected users reporting the same delays on both newly purchased Google Home speakers and older units that have been in service for years.
Beyond delayed responses, at least one owner described a speaker going offline entirely without any visible trigger, suggesting the issue extends beyond Gemini’s response times into device connectivity itself.
These disruptions follow a pattern of recurring problems across Google’s smart speaker lineup, with Gemini suffering a separate outage just weeks earlier and Google previously acknowledging that Google Home’s overall performance had declined.
That acknowledgement came after mounting user frustration, reflected in the r/GoogleHome subreddit’s habit of running periodic megathreads specifically for members to air complaints about the platform.
Downdetector’s status page for Google Gemini currently shows no confirmed mass outage, though reported issues have risen above their typical baseline, pointing to a smaller-scale disruption rather than a full platform failure. That gap between user reports and official status tracking makes it difficult to gauge exactly how many households are affected by the slowdown at this stage.
The timing coincides with Google’s rollout of its newest Home speaker hardware alongside an expanded deployment of Gemini to older devices, two simultaneous changes that increase the likelihood of strain across the wider smart speaker network.
Google has not issued any official statement addressing the reported delays and outages as of publication.
