Gadronics Homey is taking another step toward making AI a core part of the smart home. This time it’s doing it by plugging directly into ChatGPT.
Athom has launched a native integration that lets users connect their Homey setup with ChatGPT in a single click. As a result, this removes much of the friction that previously came with linking AI tools to a full smart home system.
Until now, connecting Homey to large language models required more technical effort. This process often relied on the Homey Model Context Protocol (MCP) server introduced earlier this year. While powerful, it wasn’t exactly beginner-friendly. However, the new integration changes that, bringing AI control into ChatGPT in a way that feels far more immediate and accessible.
Once connected, ChatGPT can interact directly with your Homey environment. That includes renaming devices, reorganising zones, and creating or updating both standard and Advanced Flows. Previously, users had to manually build automation logic step by step. Now they can simply describe what they want, and let ChatGPT translate it into something Homey can execute.
In practice, that could mean asking for a “goodnight routine that dims the lights, locks the doors, and lowers the thermostat,” and having it turned into a usable Flow without digging through individual automation cards. Therefore, it’s less about replacing Homey’s existing system and more about lowering the barrier to building complex setups.
The integration works across the entire Homey ecosystem, including Homey Cloud, Homey Pro, Homey Pro Mini, and self-hosted Homey Server installations. This keeps it consistent whether you’re running a fully local setup or a cloud-connected home.
For users who prefer other AI assistants, nothing is being taken away. The existing MCP server still supports platforms like Claude. As a result, ChatGPT is now an additional entry point rather than the only one.
The timing also highlights how quickly Homey is expanding its AI footprint. In recent weeks, the platform has pushed its interface onto more surfaces. This includes new Android TV and LG webOS apps that turn televisions into full smart home dashboards. With ChatGPT now added to the mix, Homey is steadily positioning itself as a system you can control from almost anywhere. You can use almost any format without needing to open a traditional app at all.
