If Apple truly does deliver on its new Siri and other Apple Intelligence features, then you’re very likely to want to upgrade to iPadOS 27 if your device supports it.

Apple does aim to provide OS updates for each of its devices for as long as possible, but the demands of the new features mean that only the most recent models will support the upcoming update …

Apple has announced that the following iPad models are compatible with iPadOS 27:

  • iPad Pro 11-inch: 2nd generation and later (A12Z+)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch: 4th generation and later (A12Z+)
  • iPad Air: 4th generation and later
  • iPad: 9th generation and later
  • iPad mini: 6th generation and later

However, the most powerful Apple intelligence features are limited to iPads powered by the M4 chip and later with at least 12GB RAM.

How to identify your iPad model and iPadOS version

If you’re unsure of the exact model and generation of your iPad, it’s easy to check:

Settings > General > About

and check the model name and generation.

To check which version of iPadOS you are currently running:

Settings > Software Update

and check your current version. If an update is available, your iPad will show it here.
