Gadronics Wyze is quietly leveling up one of its most popular budget devices with the launch of the Wyze Lock Bolt v2.
This is a refreshed version of its entry-level smart lock that now includes built-in Wi-Fi. The best part? It still costs $79.98, the same price as the original model.
The first Lock Bolt is a great “smart-ish” pick, but it relied entirely on Bluetooth. That meant no remote locking, no real-time alerts, and no proper integration with voice assistants. The v2 fixes all of that. With Wi-Fi onboard, you can now lock or unlock the door from anywhere, check activity logs on the go, and use Alexa or Google Assistant for hands-free control, all things you’d usually expect from pricier models.
Wyze hasn’t changed the overall formula, and that’s a good thing. The fingerprint sensor remains one of the fastest in its class, unlocking the door in around half a second. Biometric data stays stored locally, too, which is a reassuring privacy touch. The keypad has been upgraded to a sleeker tempered-glass touchpad, complete with smudge resistance and illuminated numbers so you can see it clearly at night.
The lock supports up to 50 access codes, plus temporary passcodes for visitors that expire automatically. And for those worried about someone watching over their shoulder, Wyze lets you add extra random digits before or after your code to obscure the real one.
Battery life does take a slight hit, maxing out at around eight months instead of a full year, but Wyze has added a USB-C emergency port so you can power the lock temporarily if you get caught with dead batteries. There’s also a traditional key option for backup.
A built-in tamper alarm adds an extra layer of security, and if you already use a Wyze video doorbell, you can unlock the door right from the live view screen.
For under $80, the Lock Bolt v2 now offers features you’d typically expect from smart locks twice the price. The addition of Wi-Fi doesn’t just improve the experience — it transforms the lock into a genuinely compelling option for anyone who wants app control, remote access, and modern smart home support without paying premium-lock prices.
