The wait is over – WiiM has officially entered the smart speaker game, and its first-ever model, the WiiM Sound, might just be the Sonos challenger many have been waiting for.

Announced back in May 2025 and now available to order, the WiiM Sound marks the company’s boldest step yet beyond its popular streamers like the WiiM Pro Plus. On paper, this is a tempting debut owing to its small cylinder that supports 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Res Audio streaming and generates a powerful 100W of audio power.

Flexibility is also a major part of the appeal. The speaker can run solo, from a stereo pair, or join a multi-speaker setup – even acting as a surround or centre channel in a Dolby 5.1 system. That versatility, paired with WiiM’s strong reputation for affordability and performance, puts it squarely in Sonos territory.

Inside, a four-inch woofer and dual tweeters drive the sound, while built-in room correction automatically tunes audio to your space.  The WiiM Sound also keeps up with modern connectivity standards because it is compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio, Ethernet, and a 3.5mm Aux port all make the list.

Controls are just varied. For playback and smart home integration, you can use the WiiM app, the voice remote that comes with it, or the 1.8-inch touch screen on top.

At £299 / €349 / $299, which is around AU$459, the WiiM Sound lands between the Sonos Era 100 and Era 300, putting it in direct competition with Sonos’s mid-range speakers.

If WiiM can deliver the same reliable ecosystem it’s built with its streamers, this could be the start of a genuine Sonos rival — and a wake-up call for the multiroom audio market.
