Tapo, TP-Link’s smart home brand, has a new trick up its sleeve – a solar-powered floodlight camera called the Tapo C615F that barely needs any sunlight, making home security feel effortless.

The Tapo C615F device is small, but it’s packed with features, especially for its early bird $89.99 launch price.

With it, you get 2K video, a 360-degree pan, 130-degree tilt range, and a super bright 800-lumen LED floodlight that you can control yourself or let motion detection handle for you. The light’s angle is adjustable, so you can shine it wherever you want. The AI-powered tracking also follows people, cars, or even your pets without the need for a subscription. It’s also got a two-way radio with mic and speaker, colour-night vision, and an IP65 rating.

You don’t even need to fuss over wires or look for outlets, since it works even when it’s out in the far corners of your backyard. As long as it gets 45 minutes of sunlight a day, Tapo says the camera can power itself for a full 24 hours.

If it can’t get enough sunlight, then there’s no reason to panic – apparently the built-in battery can last up to 140 days on standby, depending on how often the camera and floodlight has to kick in.

The camera supports local storage through a microSD card (up to 512 GB) or cloud storage through Tapo Care, which starts at $3.49 per month or $34.99 per year.

It’s not Tapo’s first solar-powered security camera, but it’s arguably their most practical yet. With smart energy use, strong floodlighting, and full 360-degree coverage, the C615F stands out, looking like one of the best sub-$100 smart cams around.

At the moment, it’s only available in the US but a European launch is planned soon.
