Setapp now lets users buy or subscribe to selected apps individually
Starting today, select Setapp apps will offer standalone monthly, yearly, and one-time purchase options. Here are the details.
Standalone purchases and subscriptions now available for select apps
When MacPaw officially launched Setapp in January 2017, the service offered a list of more than 60 Mac titles for a flat monthly subscription fee of $9.99. Almost 10 years later, the platform’s ever-increasing catalog now also covers iOS and web platforms, with well over 240 apps for users to choose from.
Today, MacPaw is introducing new purchase options, including standalone subscriptions and one-time purchase plans for select applications.
Under the new model, apps such as Bartender, Downie, and AlDente Pro, as well as MacPaw’s own apps such as CleanMyMac, Moonlock, and Gemini 2, will offer a variety of subscription and purchase plans, including monthly, yearly, and one-time options.
Importantly, these single-app plans will be accessible through a Setapp account without requiring a full Setapp subscription.
MacPaw says that while today’s announcement includes over 60 apps, “additional applications that choose to participate in the new single-app purchase model will be announced on a regular basis.”
Here’s MacPaw’s CEO and founder, Oleksandr Kosovan:
“We know that people use apps differently, with some using one tool every day while others want to explore and try out many. (…) To give users more flexibility in how they access Setapp, we’re expanding our purchase plans to include single-app models. We’re excited to announce this update, as it serves as our first meaningful step into transforming Setapp into an open ecosystem marketplace – one where users can discover, purchase, and use third-party tools and AI-powered solutions.”
The company says that while today’s announcement aims to give users a more flexible way to access apps included in the Setapp subscription catalog, MacPaw also plans to extend single-app subscriptions and purchases to apps not included in the full membership later this year.
