Eve Shutter Switch gets huge Matter update
Eve Systems has announced new Matter-enabled versions of its Shutter Switch, expanding its smart home lineup and making one of its most popular products far more flexible.
The updated switch now supports the Matter 1.4.1 standard, which means that it works seamlessly across all major smart home platforms, including Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, and Home Assistant. It’s a small but significant move that opens the door to smoother, more reliable automation for a wide range of users.
The Eve Shutter Switch can control blinds or shutters manually, through an app, or with a voice command, taking the place of a conventional in-wall shutter control. It easily fits into contemporary or retrofit installations because it is designed to fit into existing 55mm frames.
Existing users aren’t left behind either. Owners of the previous model will soon receive a free firmware update that brings full Matter compatibility, ensuring a consistent experience across Eve’s ecosystem.
Connectivity is handled via the Thread protocol, a low-power mesh network used by many Matter devices. Because the switch is permanently powered, it doubles as a mesh node, helping extend and stabilize the home’s Thread network. Users will still need a Thread Border Router, such as a HomePod mini or Echo device, to enable automations and remote access.
Moreover, blinds can also be programmed to open at sunrise, close automatically at sunset, or pair with lighting scenes for added comfort when the switch is connected to a compatible hub.
The iOS users have access to Eve’s app-only features, such as energy-saving routines that help keep rooms warmer in the winter and Adaptive Shading, which lowers blinds based on the position of the sun.
This is a welcome development for a product that is already subtly helpful and further evidence that Eve is still one of the more progressive companies bridging the platform gap in smart homes.
