Apple’s new HomePod mini could arrive just in time for the 2025 holiday season
Apple is rumoured to be preparing a new HomePod mini that could arrive in time for the holiday shopping season in 2025.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is reporting Apple is working on a HomePod mini v2 that could arrive as soon as the fall of 2025.
Gurman says the new model could arrive with a colour refresh and improved sound. That’s all well and good, but it’s not the only new HomePod model Apple is rumoured to be working on.
Opinion
When we reviewed the Apple HomePod 2nd‑gen in 2023, we gave it an impressive 4 out of 5 stars, and we’re really excited to see the next generation in the lineup.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also suggested Apple is working on a HomePod with a display. That model may not arrive until after WWDC 2025, according to Kuo, who says the delay is due to software development issues.
The original HomePod mini arrived in November 2020, so an update is well overdue considering the second generation HomePod arrived in January 2023.
Apple HomePod and Siri tips and tricks
Kuo had previously predicted a HomePod mini 2 would arrive in the second half of 2024, but that didn’t happen. However, it does seem like a new model is on the way now.
The new HomePod mini is likely to support Wi-Fi 6E and may even have a more powerful A18 chip, which would improve its capabilities and Siri integration.
Current colours for the HomePod mini include Blue, Yellow, Midnight, Orange and White. Hopefully there’ll be more colours to choose from next time around.
Audio quality is also likely to improve, with support for Hi-Res Lossless playback expected. There are also hopes for some new features like gesture recognition and a multi-touch display.
Pricing for the HomePod mini 2 is likely to remain competitive, with a rumoured price tag of around $99. The HomePod with a screen could be more expensive, costing a rumouredh $399.
The HomePod mini 2 is shaping up to be a pretty significant update for Apple’s smart speaker range.
