Apple has given a final warning to its Home app users
Apple is once again nudging smart home users to update their setup — but this time, it’s giving a firm deadline.
In an email sent this week, the company issued a final reminder that its newer Apple Home architecture must be enabled by February 10, 2026. Otherwise, users risk losing access to key features in the Home app.
The updated Home architecture first launched back in 2022, with Apple promising a system that’s more reliable and more efficient, particularly as homes add more connected devices.
If you’ve been putting the upgrade off, Apple says continuing to run the older version could lead to accessories failing to respond. Further, automations could break, or even the Home app may no longer display your smart home at all.
There’s also a feature gap to consider. Users who don’t upgrade will miss out on newer additions, including support for robot vacuum cleaners as well as ongoing security fixes and performance improvements. In other words, staying put doesn’t just mean things might stop working. It also means your smart home won’t get better over time.
Upgrading is straightforward. On an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you’ll need to open the Home app, head into Home Settings via the three-dot menu, select Software Update, and choose Update Now. Apple notes that all homes tied to your account are updated simultaneously. If you’re already up to date, the app will clearly tell you that no action is required.
For most users, this is less about new features and more about future-proofing. As Apple continues to expand HomeKit, Matter support, and automation capabilities, the legacy architecture is being phased out. After February, it won’t just be unsupported; it could actively get in the way of your smart home working properly.
