tvOS 26.4 is available now for Apple TV 4K, packing several new features and also a key fix for an annoying audio issue when transitioning between formats. Here are the details.
tvOS 26.4 improves sound transitions between different audio formats
If you have an Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, there’s a new software update available to install.
You can go to Settings ⇾ System ⇾ Software Updates to find the latest update: tvOS 26.4.
tvOS 26.4 comes with several new features, headlined by a ‘Genius Browse’ tool in the Apple TV app for finding your next movie or TV show.
Beyond new features, the update also has a fix for an annoying audio issue.
From Apple’s official release notes:
This update fixes an issue with audio playback on Apple TV 4K that can occur when sound transitions between programs with different formats, like Dolby Atmos and stereo.
If you’ve ever noticed these weird glitches when transitioning between content in different formats, tvOS 26.4 should hopefully make them a thing of the past.
Speaking of audio issues, tvOS 26.4 also introduced an optional new ‘Continuous Audio Connection’ setting that may be of interest.
If you’re still encountering audio problems in tvOS 26.4, try enabling the new setting to see if that helps. It can be found in Settings ⇾ Video and Audio ⇾ Audio Format ⇾ HDMI Output.
