CES 2026: What to expect at the show for the smart home
CES 2026 kicks off in Las Vegas on 6 January, just a few weeks away, with hundreds of companies launching new kit and setting off the trends for the coming year. There’s a lot going on at the next show, but here are the kinds of things that you can expect to see.
Better, more complicated robots
Robots are being developed at a frightening pace. In the last year, we’ve had robots with arms, such as the Roborock Saros Z70, and robots that can choose the best mopping pads for the environment. You can expect even more advancements, with smarter robots that can do more around the home and get to areas that may previously have been out of reach.
We’re not just talking about robot vacuum cleaners, either. Better pool cleaners and smarter robot lawn mowers that can cope with different environments and that need less intervention are bound to be on the release slate.
It’s likely that we’ll see some movement towards more general household robots that can help out with multiple tasks.
AI will be everywhere
You won’t be able to escape AI. Smarter home assistants, easier ways of managing your home, and robots that can do more will all be powered by AI. But you can also expect to see AI in a wider range of products, whether that’s smart appliances that can save money automatically or wash clothes better.
Expect to see more AI-powered cameras, too, to detect suspicious movement better and alert you.
Expect to see more about renewable power, with home energy management systems, powered by AI, working to reduce energy costs for home owners, while helping the world shift to cleaner sources of power.
Smarter smart homes
Smart homes work best when everything is interconnected, and rules can automate your home. Matter has seen a big shift towards this, but we’d expect to see more about interconnection between devices, both within a company’s eco system and outside it.
