Ring launches new AI-powered Single Event Alert feature for UK users
Ring has launched a new generative AI feature for UK customers aimed at reducing notification overload from its smart doorbells and security cameras.
The update, called Single Event Alert, builds on Ring’s existing Video Descriptions feature and is designed to make motion notifications clearer and less repetitive.
The feature is available to Ring Home subscribers in the UK from December 10, and works across all existing Ring video doorbells and cameras, meaning no new hardware is required.
Instead of alerting users every time motion is detected during the same activity, Single Event Alert is designed to present a more complete and useful overview of what’s happening around the home.
Single Event Alert uses AI to analyse Ring Video Descriptions and intelligently group repeated motion alerts that occur during the same event into one notification. For example, if children are playing in the garden or someone is spending several minutes at the front door, users will receive a single consolidated alert rather than multiple notifications in quick succession.
Ring says this approach is intended to reduce notification fatigue without sacrificing awareness. The alert provides a summary view of the activity, allowing users to quickly decide whether they need to open the app or can safely ignore the motion.
The company positions Single Event Alert as a quality-of-life improvement for busy households, where frequent motion alerts can become distracting over time. It also builds directly on Ring’s Video Descriptions feature, which already uses AI to generate short summaries of motion events.
