Wyze’s Window Cam patrols the outdoors from inside your house
Wyze is taking an unconventional approach to outdoor monitoring with its new Window Cam, a security camera designed to stay safely indoors while watching what’s happening outside.
Instead of mounting hardware on the exterior of your home, Wyze’s “Rear Window” style setup lets the camera look out from behind a pane of glass – no weatherproofing, battery swaps, or outdoor power outlets required.
While Wyze has offered window mounts for its other cameras before, the Window Cam is built specifically for this use case. There are no infrared LEDs or standard night-vision lighting, which typically bounce off the glass and create glare. Instead, the camera relies on a wide f/1.0 aperture to deliver enhanced colour night vision, capturing usable footage even with minimal ambient light.
It records in 1080p with a 101-degree horizontal field of view, and a narrower 53.9 degrees vertically. The bundled mount uses a large black bezel to cut reflections from indoor lights, and the camera itself attaches via hook-and-loop fastener. The mount sticks to the window using an adhesive pad, not reusable, but Wyze includes a spare if you need to reposition it later.
Power comes through a 10-foot microUSB cable, and local 24/7 recording is available if you add your own microSD card up to 512GB. A built-in microphone and speaker offer basic two-way audio, though talking through a closed window naturally won’t match the clarity of an outdoor camera.
The Window Cam supports Wyze’s motion detection alerts, and subscribers to the Cam Unlimited Pro plan can get AI-generated descriptions of what the camera sees. Cloud storage options range from $2.99 to $19.99 per month, though some users may still be cautious: Wyze has been working to rebuild trust after a recent breach that briefly exposed feeds from thousands of customer cameras, as well as earlier undisclosed vulnerabilities in discontinued models.]
The Wyze Window Cam is available now for $34.98 from the company’s online store.
