Everything a robot lawnmower should be

The Segway Navimow X350 is expensive, there’s no denying that, but it’s incredibly quick to install, the app is very easy to use and loaded with features and this robot lawn mower’s grass cutting performance is brilliant. Being able to detect certain obstacles and effectively avoid them is very helpful for those with kids or dogs, there’s different cutting modes and it has very quick charging, all of which contribute to a very neat yard. It could do with better traction on its front wheels and it would be great to not have to have a reference station like the latest Husqvarna Automowers, but those are minor qualms in an otherwise fantastic robot lawn mower.

  • Excellent performance

  • Lovely design

  • Very easy to use

  • Quite large

  • No all-wheel drive

  • Still requires reference station

Segway Navimow X350: Introduction

  • Type: Robot lawn mower, wire-free
  • Docking: Plugged in
  • Navigation system: EFLS 3.0

Robot lawn mowers are without a doubt a luxury purchase but once you have experienced how convenient they are, especially if you get a good one, it’s very difficult to imagine how you ever managed without one. Swedish company Husqvarna might have been first to introduce a robot lawn mower, but it hasn’t been the last, with several players now fighting for a piece of your yard pie.

One of those is Segway. You may relate this brand to those two-wheelers that will get you from A to B significantly quicker than walking, but it also makes robot lawn mowers and very good ones at that. It launched its Navimow H Series in 2022, followed by the Navimow I Series in 2024, but for 2025, it’s the Navimow X3 Series that we’ve been treated to.

There are four models in the X3 Series, comprising the X315, X330, X350 and X390. I was sent the Navimow X350 for review and it’s been keeping my lawn looking wonderful for over a month. Here’s what I learned.

Setup

  • No boundary wire required
  • Reference station needed
  • Compatible with Segway Navimow app

Back in the day, the worst thing about robot lawn mowers compared to their robot vacuum cleaner cousins was the setup process. The first ones required boundary wire, which wasn’t only laborious to install, depending on your yard, but animals would take great pleasure in digging it up, too, making maintenance a pain.

The more recent robot lawn mowers – and in fact all of Segway’s previous Navimow H-series and I-Series models – utilize GPS technology and mapping software to virtually define the mowing area so physical boundary wire isn’t required. The X3 series, unsurprisingly, also opts for a wire-free setup, and it is incredibly easy to set up.

The X350 still requires a reference station – something the latest Husqvarna models can manage without – but from unpacking this robot lawn mower to getting to the mapping stage in the Navimow app was 20 minutes. The mapping, which was very easy to do, especially if you are familiar with gaming controllers, took just another 10 minutes for a 300m2 yard, so all in all, installation was what I considered to be a breeze.

There are a few pieces to put together for the GNSS antenna, a few screws to screw into place and a couple of wires to join up. You’ll also need both outdoor power and a good position for the reference station too, with a clear view of the sky, but that’s pretty much all there is to consider.

The 10-metre cable that comes in the box gives you some flexibility when it comes to placement, but if that cable isn’t long enough, you can buy extra antenna extension cables and use three together to extend it to 30 metres in total.

If you’re struggling with a GPS signal, or you have a particularly large yard, you can buy a Signal Enhancement antenna. I didn’t need either, thankfully, with the GPS antenna sitting nicely in a flower bed at the top of my garden and about two metres from the charging station. It’s worth mentioning the charging station was about 100 metres from my Wi-Fi router, but its connection was never a problem.

Design and components

  • IP66 rated
  • 698 x 550 x 307mm, 19.8kg

The Segway Navimow X350 has a dark grey shell with orange accents and it looks great. This particular model is quite big, so if you have a smaller garden, you would be better opting for one of the smaller models, but the overall design is lovely. It certainly doesn’t blend in, but it looks premium enough that I didn’t mind.

It’s IP66 water and dust resistant so you don’t need to take it inside if rain is forecast (though it would be nice if the housing was included at this price rather than an add on), and you will be able to clean it with a jet wash too, which is worth doing every now and then in order to ensure no debris builds up on the underside of the mower.

Speaking of the underside, this is where you’ll find a circular disc with six blades, along with the two front wheels. Those wheels are similar to what you’ll find on the Husqvarna Aspire R4, and they allow for a good range of movement, though they do slip when the grass is wet.

The rear wheels, which are bright orange and have a deep tread on the X350, are better for traction, but without four wheel drive, it is better to delay grass cutting until it’s dry if you have an uneven yard.

Elsewhere, the X350 weighs a healthy 19.8kg, so it’s not the lightest, but it’s very easy to move around with a convenient handle on the rear to help. It steers much more freely than the Husqvarna 305 does, and to be honest, the weight is pretty irrelevant as you’re unlikely to be picking it up much.

A large dot-matrix screen sits on top of the X350, which will display various icons, functions and real-time status alerts, like 100% charged or Bluetooth pairing mode, while a large red stop button sits next to it with three smaller buttons below. There are also three cameras on the X350, one in the front and one either side, along with a Time-of-Flight sensor. These give this robot lawn mower a 300-degree field of view to allow it to detect 13 animals like dogs, cats and hedgehogs, as well as children and obstacles like balls.

Features

  • Smart home integration
  • Obstacle detection
  • Scheduling, grass cutting height from app

Segway has always been pretty good at packing its robot lawn mowers with a range of features and the Navimow X350 is no different – the obstacle detection I just mentioned being a prime example.

Alongside that detection, there’s an upgraded Exact Fusion Location System (EFLS), with EFLS version 3.0 that offers a three-frequency Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) coverage, and there have been improvements in Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (VSLAM), and Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) technologies too. What that means in layman’s terms is the X350 should offer better precision and stability even if the GPS signal isn’t amazing.

There is also something called the Expansion Bay on the entire X3 Series of robot lawn mowers, which allows for accessories that can slot directly into them. The first of these is a semi-automatic edge trimmer, though it is only available in some countries and regions and as the UK – where this mower was tested – isn’t one of them, I couldn’t try this out.

The Navimow app is required not just for setup, but operation of the X350 too. You can start mowing from the mower itself, but the app is where the magic really happens. It is not only very simple to use, but it also allows you to do everything from scheduling your robot lawn mower to changing the cutting height without needing to be anywhere near your mower.

Both might sound like obvious features to include in an accompanying robot lawn mower app but not all Segway’s competitors allow for grass cutting adjustments from their apps so don’t take that feature for granted because it’s a real pain to have to do manually. Other features include selecting a ‘Work mode’, with Quiet mowing, Standard mowing and Efficient mowing all options, turning sound effects on or off, turning the Traction Control System on or off, and deciding what weather conditions the mower goes out in. Rain or shine, it will cut your grass if you ask it to, and with no moaning either.

You can also find mowing reports, turn on the Animal Friendly mode that will see the mower change direction if an animal is detected, and edit the map of your yard should you need to. Note that if you want to create a Doodle – one of the fun features of Navimow robot lawnmowers – or you want to change your map, you will need to be within Bluetooth range of your mower. You can also integrate the X350 with smart home systems, including Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

Performance

When it comes to performance, there is very little to complain about on the Navimow X350. It’s a superb robot lawn mower. I do have a pretty simple yard in terms of layout in that there are no islands or permanent obstacles to consider, with the main issue being it isn’t particularly even, but this mower still offers impressive performance.

Very occasionally – I’m talking twice in two months – the Navimow X350 slipped into the flower bed at the side and required manual intervention from me to pull it out. I had sent it out in the rain and those front wheels just didn’t have the traction to pull it up out of the one-inch ditch. That was also before I turned the traction control system on, too, after which it didn’t happen again.

I couldn’t test how well the X350 performs on a 50% slope that Segway claims it can handle as my yard doesn’t have a slope.

In terms of cutting performance, I thought the Navimow X350 was excellent. It hardly ever missed a spot in my yard, which you can see with the real-time map view in the app. I had it set to the Standard mowing mode for most of my review period, though I did try out the Efficient mowing mode and while that missed a couple more spots, it was very quick.

Even Standard mowing was fast, and the obstacle detection in all modes was good too. My kids often ran in the garden while it was working its magic, as did our dog, and the lawn mower always avoided both, along with balls and other objects the kids had left out.

In terms of battery use, the X350 used around 50% for 286m2 of yard and it took around 80 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%, which is much quicker than other models I have tested.

Final thoughts

The Segway Navimow X350 is an excellent robot lawn mower. It’s expensive, there’s no denying that, but it’s incredibly quick to install and once setup, it will keep your yard looking fantastic with virtually zero intervention.

The app is very easy to use and loaded with features, its grass cutting performance is brilliant and the fact that it can detect certain obstacles and effectively avoid them is helpful for those with kids or pets.

It could do with better traction on its front wheels and it would be great to not have to have a reference station like the latest Husqvarna Automowers, but those are minor qualms in an otherwise fantastic robot lawn mower.

How we test

When we publish our reviews, you can rest assured that they are the result of “living with” long term tests.

Robot lawn mowers usually live somewhat independently of the rest of a smart home ecosystem, even if they can work within an ecosystem too. Because we’re testing smart home kit all day, everyday, we know what matters and how a particular robot lawn mower compares to alternatives that you might also be considering.

Our reviews are comprehensive, objective and fair and, of course, we are never paid directly to review a device. For this specific review, we have lived with this robot lawn mower for over two months, giving us plenty of experience with it.
